TV18, NDTV Bag Top Honours at Indian News TV Awards

Award shows provide a platform to the industry people to get their worth proved. Some receive many honours, some get few, while some fail to get any. But at the ceremony of the first Indian News Television Awards hosted by Indiantelevision.com on 18th July 07 at New Delhi, the scene was bit outlandish as the TV18 Group of News Channels made an incredible success by receiving as many as 16 awards. The NDTV Group was the second leading award winner that had in its pocket a total tally of 14 awards out of a total of 49. 
Dr. Prannoy Roy, a renowned name in the television industry and currently associated with NDTV, received a standing ovation and was presented the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' for his contribution to the medium. Another dignified personality who found new avenues and made huge success in the TV world namely Rajdeep Sardesai, received the 'Newsmaker of the Year Award' at the function. 

Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer, Baljeet Singh Lalli was honoured for his pioneering work for the introduction of Mobile TV technology in the nation. BBC's Nick Gowing was given a special award in recognition of his work in international news reporting and coverage. 
The so called award show could hardly give any excitement as the prize distribution was quite monotonous and long. Every second name announced was either of the channels of TV 18 Group or NDTV Group. Among the list of award winners were CNN-IBN that received seven awards, CNBC-TV18 bagged four and CNBC Awaaz caught hold of three. NDTV 24x7 received four metals, NDTV India got nine and NDTV Profit took one. Meanwhile, Star News added to its bank five honors, Times Now got four awards, Aaj Tak bagged two and IBN7 and Zee News received one each. IBNLive was declared as having the best news channel website. Apart from the award distribution ceremony, there were also short humorous clips that were showcased on the ways news channels present investigative stories, weather reports, and entertainment news etc. 
The event saw the presence of various dignitaries who came from different walks of life. Some of those who gave away the honours were Member of Parliament Rajiv Shukla and Bag Films head Anuradha Prasad, CEO of Prasar Bharti Baljeet Singh Lalli, Cricket Commentator Charu Sharma, Madison Chairman Sam Balsara, Phil and Diana from Al Jazeera channel, television actors Rajiv Paul and Pawan Shankar, entrepreneurs Durgam Arora, Balram Mahendra and Monica Burman, Indiantelevision.com Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief Anil Wanvari and General Manager Anoop Wanwari, Editorial Director Thomas Abraham. Cirus Varucha and Cirus Sahukar, the two MCs cheered the crowd with there outstanding performance. 
The function that took place at the convention hall in the Ashok Hotel was the zenith of the Indian News Television Summit held at the same venue in the morning. The Summit commenced with a keynote address by Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Asha Swarup. The morning session was followed by a session on content and another on generating revenues, in which several senior persons from different channels participated.
